We got to travel to Yelapa, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, for a retreat from all things winter, but not from all things circus….With the help of some excellent co-producers, we pulled off another over-the-top Winter Circus, complete with a cast of over 50, online reservations, and a time travel machine….and replenished our scholarship fund!.Our 12th annual dead-of-winter festival of contact improvisation, known as Mazopalooza, was a particularly satisfying one somehow simpler than most, and working with guest artist Melecio Estrella was a joy.Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with their opening and hours. During soft launch, they're open daily from noon to 8 pm. The Rumpus Room is located at 2301 Main Street in Mount Pleasant. And while the burger menu is pretty stacked, vegetarians will rejoice that there's a veggie chili and a veggie burger to chow down on.īroccoli mac and cheese (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome)Īlthough Vancouver takes itself pretty seriously when it comes to fresh veggies and upscale eats, there's definitely room at the table for a spot that is all about good times with friends and family, a laid back space, and seriously good comfort food. For a twist on your usual side of fries go for the Sesame fries for a fusion twist. Of course there are chicken and waffles, and an ooey, gooey broccoli mac and cheese-served in a skillet with a biscuit on the side. Mini corn dogs (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome) The Peanut Butter Burger is back, though this time it's got a fruity punch with a raspberry-based sauce-a nice balance to the bacon and, yep, PB. The Rumpus Room has really mastered the simple art of the corn dog, and their fried pickles are a dilly of a delight-definitely the best in town.

When it comes to the food, there's stuff for everyone on the menu, though it definitely skews to the deep fried zone, but boy oh boy do they do it well. The best fried pickles (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome) You can customize your Caesar with the sprit of your choice (highly recommend going for the gin), or get really naughty with their Long Island Iced Tea. There are novelty soda pops to enjoy on their own, or souped up with some booze for the grown ups.

Kitschy curtains hang on the windows, there are cozy couches, a small bar, amber pendant lights, and tons of board games and other collectables scattered throughout. The bar at The Rumpus Room (Lindsay William-Ross/Vancouver Is Awesome) Basically it looks like the grooviest throwback funkified basement, wood paneling and all. You will recognize the address as what was formerly The Foundation, but you won't recognize the room-except if you knew and loved the old Rumpus Room a little further south on Main Street. They're ba-aaaaack! After months-years, really-of waiting, Vancouver finally has The Rumpus Room back, and it's definitely the ultimate hangout spot already.
